West Sulawesi Corn Produce 100 Thousand tons in 2012

The commodity of corn in Indonesia especialy in West Sulawesi procince expects to produce about 100 thousand tons of corn in 2012. Provincial Secretary of West Sulawesi, Ismail Zainuddin, in Mamuju, said Monday that West Sulawesi province has corn production reached 100 thousand tons in 2012. He said the government wants to increase corn production reached 140 thousand tons in 2014 in order to make one of these commodities increased economic boosters Sulbar and to improve welfare.

The government is trying to encourage the production of corn for the support of national maize production target that 2014 maize self-sufficiency target materialized. Regional Secretary said, to realize that the quality of corn seeds Sulbar need to increase the production and productivity of these commodities in the region.

"The central government should help placed budget for the procurement of quality seed in the West Sulawesi because that was one of the obstacles increase maize production in West Sulawesi is the lack of quality seeds available to farmers. He said the government should help farmers by distributing seed corn quality, up to 90 percent of the corn crop acreage in the region.
